A dysfunctional family is one in which conflict and instability is common. In a dysfunctional family, Parents can be found abusing or neglecting their children. Other family members will typically accommodate and enable negative behavior as well. Dysfunctional families can be the result of addiction, codependency, arrested development in one or both parent or from toxic behaviors past down from generation to generation.
